Re: A Spartan feat

well, never mind that question. i have resumed exercising this morning. i did one set of dips and one rep. one set of the other chest exercises with 2 reps. exercise 6 & 7 were 5 reps. now, i can do a lot more. but that is what re-aggravated my shoulder problems. so i'm going to ease into it very slowly. i'll be 49 next mth. i was injured in a car wreck a year ago. i couldn't exercise for several weeks. that got me out of the habit of exercising. with everything else going on, it has been very difficult getting back into the groove. it's been a rough year for me. so i'm soft and no spring chicken. to avoid any other unpleasant surprise i'm going to ride in the slow lane. the dips aren't painful to my shoulder, but exercise 4 is. at any rate, i don't expect rapid progress, but at this rate i should be up to doing as many dips that atlas did in 6-8 mths. that's not bad. i also did the constipation exercises, the spinal exercises, and started on the abs - slowly of course. for the abs i did one set of 2 reps. 2 sets for exercise 3 and 7. 1 rep for exercise 4 and 6. 5 reps for the last exercise. the spinal exercises, and the constipation exercises were great for my lower back where it's been trying to go out on me. the best exercises for that area are lesson 1 ex. 7, and the ab exercise 4. i do both suspended between two chairs - they're almost the same exercise. that allows gravity to pull the vertebrae apart and get it off that nerve. i lack the endurance in my arms and shoulders to do them very long. laying on my back on the floor feels very good too. but i can't put my hands behind my head for the sit ups as this is very painful for my left shoulder. there are a few other exercises here that are stressful for that shoulder. i'm all banged up, so i'm going to have to move along slowly and very carefully. but the tortoise that beat bugs bunny looked at the camera and said "slow and steady wins the race." as long as i'm persistent and steadily progressing, i'll arrive at the finish line in a race where finishing is more important than how fast you do it. but i think i can get beyond where i used to be in a year's time at the most. dave draper, for whom i have much respect although he did use steroids at one time, says you can still build a lot of muscle up into your mid 50s. so i'll have to buckle to now and waist no more time. surely i can rebuild what i lost and then some in the next 6 years. it's not like i'm gunning for a mr ogre physique - i mean mr. olympia physique. i'd be happy with an atlas, or lalanne, or reeves or reg park circa 1951, physique. surely i can achieve one of these in the next 6 years - if i'm persistent and nothing else bad happens to me. the good Lord willing. but health is more important than physique. right now i'm concerned about my aches and pains. building a perfect physique the physical culture way is an excellent way to achieve excellent health. there's no reason why a person can't have both, within reason of course.

a physical culture lifestyle will develop health, strength, and physique. if a person adheres to it everyday over a reasonable length of time it is a certainty to work. of course a serious injury could put the breaks on it for awhile. i believe it is best to develop yourself along your own natural body type, though trying to attain certain similarities to famous natural bodybuilders is alright. in fact it can spurr ones ambitions to keep up their training. the health and vitality from your efforts will in the end, be the most important thing gained. keep well.

laying on the floor flat on my back seems to do more for it than anything else i've done.
