Re: Exercise Discussion Thread - In memory of Jim Lavin

i think it would be a good idea to do the dips first. i am going to begin the course again on march 1st, and i will try the method you explained. i have been tired as of late but hope to come out of this fog. it seems to be a case of being pulled in 20 directions all the time and i can't seem to keep up with everything.

that exercise where you interlock the flip off fingers of each hand and pull over and back behind the head: in my own experience, if done properly, i need only do 15 reps per set. i make sure to tense my pecs extra hard at the bottom of the frontal part of the movement.

ok, then there's the one that causes much confusion, the one people have trouble determining if it's supposed to be performed statically or with movement. in this one, you put the fist of one hand in the palm of the other over the hip of the hand that is a palm, and resist. it is best done with movement, moving the fist over to the palm's hip. now, i can't tell that it matters if the fist and palms are arranged in different order. i push it one way, and then push back the other way with my fist hand switched over to a palm hand. i suppose it could be done by just pushing over to the one side over and over without changing the hands, you know, right to left over and over again until tired, then go to the other arm and move it left to right repeatedly. i've never tried it that way. i'll have to experiment with that. this exercise is very powerful, and one doesn't have to do very many reps. but be careful with this one, as it could easily pull a muscle if you put too much force into it, which is easy to do. in other words, don't be too vigorous with them.

when i began the course on march 1st., i performed it just one way. perhaps i should have added a little variety to it.

then there's the exercise where your arms are positioned hanging on their respective sides and then you bear down on them tensing your pecs as hard as you can for a few seconds, and then let up. it takes me about 50 reps before i start feeling anything. one set seems to be plenty, unless i'm doing one workout a day, then i do more sets. maybe as many as 5.
