Re: When did BBing and PC stop being the same thing?

Looking at Cutler in the videos on that youtube link page is depressing.

As to the Weiders. I quit buying the magazine when I was about 15. About the third year of the Mr O when Oliva won it. In comparison to guys like Steve Reeves and others that preceded them, the guys in the mags were just too big. I'm talking Draper, Oliva, and Arnold was coming on the scene. I had 20" thighs then and the idea of arms that big was just too freaky for me.

The Weider magazine at that time, about 66 or 67, was getting somewhat soft core porn. There was an underlying strangeness, so I quit getting them.

I was lifting weights for strength for sports. I had no desire to get as huge as the guys in the magazines. I believed then, as I do now, those guys have little, if any, athleticism.

BBing has seemed to become somewhat cultish. I know there are some Christian BBing groups, but BBers today seem to worship at the altar of the body beautiful. Although what passes for "beauty" today is freakish, and instead of a wholesome lifestyle of eating right and exercise, they risk their life and health with drugs to get huge.

I appreciate companies like Lifeline and Fitdeck that promote functional fitness. I think companies like that follow in the footsteps of Macfadden, Atlas and other physical cultualists.

The real goal is a healthy mind in a healthy body with a healthy relationship with your maker.

bodybuilding today ia as far from physical culture as east is from west. many are to blame for the shameful bodybuilding culture of today but the weiders it seems are at the forefront. i can't see bodybuilding returning to its wonderful past. their are too many crazies in the spotlight, and too many that have made large sums of money off of this madness for it to return to something good. thank goodness their will always be those who are exercising daily for the right reasons. they are rarely mentioned but are the ones worthy of respect.

I think their are a combination of reasons. The steroidal culture of bodybuilding along with the bombardment of attacks by the AMA against Physical Culture are two legitimate reasons. The endless prescribing of prescription drugs by the doctors for whatever ails you and the disastrous outcome from that practice. Thankfully people are returning to natural remedies as is witnessed by the flourishing Health Food stores across the nation. I would be very happy to see a new era of Physical Culture methods sweep the nation. With the attacks by the allopaths with their deep pockets this does not seem likely.

I think it would be cool to work in a health food store.

I worked in one briefly before I attended Business College in the early 2000's. It was a pretty decent job. The job I wanted was to work in a used Book Shop.
