Old School BBing
I found a pretty good natural BBing site by Alan Palmieri. He trained in Gironda's gym. He never competed but loved working out. His father was an Atlas student, and that is what he started out doing. He has an article on the site called Old School Bodybuilding that I could really relate to, except I never turned into an iron head. On the site click on Articles, then click on Old School Bodybuilding. It's a fun read.

Re: Old School BBing
funny how he says it was easier to pull teeth than to get his dad to talk about his war experiences. my dad served from '42 to '45, was in combat for almost a year, and it was easier to pull teeth than to get him to stop talking about his war experiences, the same for his brother-in-law who was in combat for just a mth before he ran over a land mine, and he had more war stories to tell than my dad did.

He has an interview about Blair's Protein on his site also. Pretty good stuff.

Re: Old School BBing
What he says about the mags that were out is true. Weider's mag was slicker than the York one. The York one was hard core weight training. Weider presented this fantasy world of the beach with Dave Draper having hot bikini babes all over him. The photography was superior to the York mag.
There weren't many training articles. The one I remember was Larry Scott's arm routines, which I tried to do. The biggest I got my arms was 15" flexed. My friends all said you didn't want to get big like the guys in the magazines because you'd have to buy tailor made clothes. That, and I was a swimmer and that was more important to me.
The article nails the way we learned to do things. One of my friends got a Weider weight set so we checked out the training course that came with it. He got a pretty good build from it. He got into power lifting in college. We had our 40th H.S. reunion this summer and he is power lifter huge. He's been a coach. We'd all learn things from each other. I don't think any of us really had a clue as to what we were doing.
