Re: Jon

I have been thinking the next few months through. I have a ski pass for 2018-2019. First one in several years. The problem with skiing, the first trip or two, my legs are so week, and they get so sore, I do not want to go back.

Obviously, getting my legs stronger will be the key to having a successful opening to the ski season.

I have been sitting here listening to Adam Zickerman talk about Power of 10/Super Slow workouts. Optimally working out on a Nautilus circuit do super slow, would be the best. However, I have free-weights and Soloflex. You adapt.

I am going to start this afternoon. Monday afternoon will be my workout window. I think my program, to start, will be planks, incline press, barbell curl, military press, leg press.

We will see how ready I am to go about Thanksgiving (give or take a few weeks...).

I don't see how you could go wrong with that. I imagine winters are pretty special in Idaho.

Re: Jon

Special is an understatement in Eastern Idaho. Twenty below is not uncommon.

I got my workout in last evening. Surprisingly I am not to sore today.

Cutting back on exercise and in regards to activities comes with getting older.

When I was 40 I could jog four miles (5 AM), teach a cross country ski class during PE (and cross country ski with them), and then night ski that evening.

Not anymore.

I have struggled the last couple of years skiing because my legs were weak. I am going to add wall sits to my workout in a couple of months as we get closer to December. Bode Miller, America's most disappointing Olympic athlete used to do 20 minute wall sits for leg strength. I am shooting for 5 maybe.

Everyone have a good day.

Re: Jon

How about 1/2 squats for the duration of a ski run, including 1/2 squat pulses?

Re: Jon

Half squats are an idea. Unfortunately, the pressure on my lower vertebrae is an issue.

Maybe. Worked out Sunday, and today. Used the Soloflex. As much as I like the Bullworker, and Indian Club, they just do not condition the legs like squats and leg presses on the Soloflex.
