I have mixed feelings about Brian Dennehy. He served in the Marines from 1958-63 in Okinawa. He crossed the line though in claiming to be a Vietnam Vet, and he wasn't. That's stolen valor. He apologized when he was caught. Moral of the story, don't lie about being a war veteran; you will be found out and then look real bad.

Stuart Whitman joined the Army out of high school and served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1945-48. He boxed in high school and he also boxed in the Army as a light-heavyweight. He won 31 of his 32 fights.

Mort Walker, the creator of Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois, was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served in Italy in intelligence and investigation. He also over saw a camp for 10,000 German POWs. He became a 1st LT.

Here is a good article on the Sergeant that inspired him for Sgt Snorkel.

Stuart Whitman went to Hollywood High. I use to think he was from another country. I always enjoyed him in movies and television.

Randy Couture served in the Army for 6 years as an air traffic controller and made Seargent. Surprisingly he didn't box or wrestle while in the Army. He was a Greco-Roman wrestler in high school and college. Then he went on to become only one of two guys to be a UFC champion in two weight classes. He's also one of the Expendables. As tough as he is he is smart and comes across as a nice guy.
