How to Perform Strongman Stunts
Once again The Art of Manliness comes through. I had this booklet when I was a kid. There was a muscle building course I sent away for and that came along with it. I remember this fondly. I was able to tear a deck of cards in half with his method and a local phone book when was a teen.

Re: How to Perform Strongman Stunts
If you followed his instructions you could do it with some practice. The Pittsburgh phone book is pretty thick, but there is a smaller city nearby called McKeesport and their book was a little better than an 1" thick. I was able to tear it apart. I could get a Pittsburgh book started, but it was real tough to tear it in half. I couldn't do it.
I've been trying to find that old course on line but no luck so far. It was all body weight exercises and they were illustrated by drawings. I liked it, but then I started using weights.

Re: How to Perform Strongman Stunts
When I was a kid I watched an episode of Superman where he tore a couple of phone books in half. I immediately tried to tear a phone book in half but of course had no luck. Atlas said in his course to tear a page at a time. I didn't have much luck with that either.

Instead of shredding my old paperwork, I tear it up with my hands. I am no where near a phone book. If you watch the "old" Atlas film of him tearing a phone book in half on Youtube, in front of an old man and kid, you can notice the book is "started" for him. I just noticed that the last time I watched.
I used to love watching Alexeev lift on Wide World of sports, and other strong man comptetitions that ESPN used to show before they became the ESPN?NFL?NBA netfwork.

Re: How to Perform Strongman Stunts
My hands and fingers are pretty well worn out. I pretty much need the use of pads to perform the dipping exercises. My fingers would not be very effective in tearing at this point in time.
